About HDL Design


HDL Design is a collaboration of California licensed architects: Heather & David Larsen. The firm was established in 1987 in Pleasanton, CA with a drive to design, manage, and provide unparalleled service to select clients, without being under the control of a larger firm’s inflexible system. Together, they handle a broad range of project types, with the scope of services extending from development of raw land to final tenant / owner move-in coordination. In addition, HDL Design has experience with an extensive number of qualified and competent consultants, from which the project team is assembled to meet specific project goals and schedules.

HDL Design Commercial Architecture & Interiors The direct involvement HDL Design in all projects contributes to the firm’s success and design reputation. From the inception, one of the principals assumes leadership of the project. Then, working with a team of highly qualified professionals, he or she acts as the primary administrator and communicator, supervising the project’s development. The project leader is involved from start to finish, providing continuity and consistency. HDL Design maintains both general liability and professional liability insurance policies. Heather Larsen

Architect, AIA

Heather is the Principal in Charge of Interiors and WBE-certified owner of the company. She enhanced her education in Architecture, Interiors & Industrial Design Studies at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark before graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1985. She is currently a member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) and is NCARB (National Council of Architectural Review Boards) certified. She is also a certified Interior Designer through the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications CCIDC. Heather specializes in office, retail, industrial and financial interior architecture, space planning, design and furnishing specification.


Dave Larsen


David is the Principal in Charge of Architecture. He graduated with honors from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1983. David has over twenty years of experience working on varied architectural projects ranging from multi-building shopping centers to restaurants to corporate office tenant improvements. Mr. Larsen’s focus is on commercial, retail, and industrial building design, adaptive re-use and infil projects, master planning, and architecture.
